In 1624, Don Juan Antonio Marrocco y Orioles, Lord of the Manor of Serramarrocco and Captain of Justice of Salemi, was elevated as first Baron of Serramarrocco by His Majesty the King Philip IV of Spain and Sicily, in recognition of Don Juan Antonio’s valiant struggle to have given shelter and aid to Kingdom’s population ravaged by black plague that swept through Sicily at that time.
Furthermore, to the bravery and selflessness demonstrated, His Majesty King Philip IV of Spain granted to His Captain also a Royal Domain as to be held in “baroniam Serrae Marrocco”, a Crown Estate, since then, renowned for its fine vineyards, which were reserved to the winemaking of wines of the Royal Court of Sicily…
Terroir
Between mountains and sea...
Located on the western cost of the island, at Mount Erice foothills in the heart of the DOC Erice wine route, the estate lays on a classic hillside sicilian landscape, intermixed with wooded areas and with sloping land plots which are renowned as being particularly vocated to vine growing, from immemorial time.
The soils are, in fact, primarily composed of clayey areas and calcareous sandstone, intermixed with marly limestone.
The property benefits from an ideal breezy, maritime microclimate, as it insists on a windy area at an altitude of approximately 350 meters above the sea level, with a significant different range temperature between night and day…

From vineyards to cellar every single activity is focused on retaining grape fruitness.
Very accurate pruning, lush vegetation, constant monitoring on fields, it results in a natural and well balanced low yields
production and ensures long standing high quality in grapes and wines.
Furhermore, with such climatic and geological prerogatives, vineyard operations are kept to a minimum by ensuring soil nutrition exclusively with organic compost.
Harvesting is done by hand in order to prevent, wherever possible, any damage to the grape skins and to avoid any maceration process as well as oxidation reaction which would undermine the grapes’ texture while in transit to the cellar…

BARONE DI SERRAMARROCCO
"Great sicilian red wine, the Barone di Serramarrocco; a superb expression of Pignatello, a rare and an ancient grape variety of Trapani's wine district.
It boasts a dense purple colour with complex aromas of cassis, liquorice, tobacco, herbal scents of mint flower, eucalyptus and soft black fruits revealing the essence of its sicilian character. On the palate tannins are rich and refined, with bright acidity and a long balsamic finish.
Aged 18 months in new tonneaux of Troncais Allier, Barone di Serramarrocco is produced with the very best selection of Pignatello grapes harvested by hand in the "vigna di Sammarcello" of 3,75 hectares. Vines are trained by double Guyot system with a remarkable high density planting of 7.143 vines per hectare, with utmost attention to low yield production, of 1,30 kg per plant. First harvest 2006.
SERRAMARROCCO
Structure and character, elegance and curiosity. It is conceived like a classic bordeaux blend , but does not lose its territorial connotation. An impressive deep ruby colour is followed by complex aromas of red and black currants intermixed with hints of graphite, sweet tobacco, cherries, strawberry, cedar and subtle toasty oak. Refined and silky tannins, remarkable acidity and a persistant fruity finish enhance its elegant structure. Serramarrocco is a blend of sicilian terroir and bordelaise finesse.
Aged 12 months in new tonneaux of Troncais Allier, Serramarrocco is produced with the very best selection of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, harvested by hand in the "vigna del Capitano" of 2,72 hectares with a remarkable high density planting of 9.524 vines per hectare, a low yield production of 1,10 kg. per plant, and Cabernet Franc grapes harvested by hand in the "vigna di Sammichele" of 2.20 hectares, 6.250 vines per hectare with a low yield production of 1,20 kg. per plant. First harvest 2001.
NERO DI SERRAMARROCCO
100% made with Nero d'Avola grapes, the Nero di Serramarrocco is a true example of the finest expression of the most renowned sicilian grape variety. A dense purple colour is enhanced by a complex bouquet of blackberries, raspberries, mediterranean fruits, minerals notes, liquorice, orange peel, dark chocolate and underwood subtle aromas. With its typical bodied structure, it strikes out for its elegance and opulence. Aged 8 months in 1 year old tonneaux of Troncais Allier, Nero di Serramarrocco is produced with the very best selection of Nero d'Avola grapes harvested by hand in the "vigna Sakkara" of 1.80 hectares. Planted exclusively with Nero d'Avola, vines are trained by Guyot system with a density planting of 6.250 vines per hectare and with a low yield production of approximately 1,10 kg. per plant. First harvest 2002.
QUOJANE DI SERRAMARROCCO
100% made with Zibibbo grapes, Quojane di Serramarrocco is a true example of the finest expression of the terroir of Serramarrocco. Vinified as a dry wine, with its opulent and fragrant exotic texture, it strikes out for the complexity of intense Mediterranean classic fruits aromas on a most sicilian bouquet background of jasmine, zàgara and lavanda flowers, intermixed with hints of mint, cedar, rosemary, and green apple in its long fruity finish.
Excellent balance between pulpiness, minerality and acidity, Quojane di Serramarrocco is produced with Zibibbo grapes harvested in the "vigna delle Quojane" of 5.85 hectares.
Vines are trained by Guyot system with a density of 6.250 plants per hectare and with a low yield production of approximately 1,60 kg. per vine. First harvest 2009.
SAMMARCELLO
Sammarcello is the "petit vin" of Barone di Serramarrocco; a fragrant and elegant expression of our Pignatello, the oldest red grape variety of Trapani's wine district. As varietal red wine its grapes are vinified in stainless- steel vats with 12/15 days maceration on lees and fermentation in concrete vats.
A deep ruby and purple colour with crimson flashes, a classic autochthonous wine, characterized by its elegant balanced structure, and by its bouquet of highly-toned notes of black cherry liquor, eucalyptus, rose and violet as well as by its liquorice, orange chocolate and underwood balsamic scents. Sammarcello is produced exclusively with Pignatello grapes harvested by hand in the "vigna di Sammarcello" of 3,75 hectares. Vines are trained by double Guyot system with a remarkable high density of 7.143 plants per hectare, with utmost attention to low yield production, of approximately 1,30 kg. per vine. First harvest 2015.
BAGLIO DI SERRAMARROCCO
100% made of Nero d'Avola grapes, "Baglio" is named after the typical country manor of feudal Sicily.
As varietal red wine its grapes are vinified in stainless-steel vats. A deep ruby colour with crimson flashes, with refined tannins and bright acidity, it is characterized by its elegant balanced structure, and by its bouquet of highly-toned notes of currant, cherry and blackberry fruits as well as by its balsamic complex scents of liquorice, tamarind and a long fruity finish . Baglio di Serramarrocco is produced with Nero d'Avola grape harvested in the "vigna del Baglio" of 4.85 hectares. Planted exclusively with Nero d'Avola, vines are trained by double Guyot system with a remarkable high density planting of 7.143 vines per hectare and with a low yield production of 1,40 kg. per plant. First harvest 2003.
GRILLO DI SERRAMARROCCO
Wine produced with 100% Grillo grape, harvested in the "vigna delle Quojane" of 5,85 ha. Vines are trained by Guyot system with a density of 6.250 per hectare and with a low yield production of approximately 1,60 kg. per vine. It is vinified in stainless-steel vats.
With its brilliant yellow colour with light gold and green flashes, Grillo del Barone boasts a complex nose of exotic fruits, white peach, hawthorn, sage and balsamic herbs. Bright acidity and minerality pleasantly melted in a perfect balance enhanced by a long fruity finish. First harvest 2003.
